Sri Lanka school cricket tournaments held due to lack of sponsorship

A spokesman of Sri Lanka School Cricket Association said that the final round matches of the under 15 and under 17 tournament held by the association has not been held so far due to lack of sponsorship.

The reason is the failure of Mascom Company which has come to an agreement with the School Cricket Association to find sponsorship.

Mascom is expected to coordinate Rs. seven million sponsorship per annum to School Cricket Association. However, no sponsorship has been provided so far.

Due to this reason, the the final round matches of the under 15 and 17 tournaments have not been held so far. These matches are held in three divisions and schools island wide participate in it.

Sri Lanka School Cricket Association holds four tournaments under 13, 15, 17 and 19 annually and around 7000 matches are played.

St. Peters' College, Colombo has already decided to quit from the quarter finals of the Under 17 tournament in this context.

The tournaments are now being held with Rs. 1.2 million granted by Sri Lanka Cricket to School Cricket Association.
